The Intermediate Elementary School serves children in fourth and fifth grades.  The school building was originally constructed in 1954 and renovated in 1991. Today the facility offers more than 154,000 square feet dedicated to meeting the needs of young learners.

Young children learn by doing. Learning is sequential and children must demonstrate readiness for new understandings based on their maturation and past experiences. Children acquire information and knowledge through interaction with people and objects. They are motivated to learn through their own need to make sense of the world around them.

The building has a card access system and offers telephone, television and intranet access in each classroom.  Other amenities include a multi-purpose room, two cafeterias/multi-purpose room, and a gymnasium with auxiliary gym space.

  • Safe2Say Something Reporting System Now Available

All schools in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including DTSD, have adopted use of the “Safe2Say Something” anonymous tip line as a means of improving campus safety and improving school climate. The tip line is operated and monitored 24/7 by the Office of the Attorney General where tips are reviewed, classified, and forwarded to the appropriate school district. Tips that are found to contain information that may indicate a "life safety" issue are immediately forwarded to the appropriate county emergency dispatch center. • January is National School Board Recognition Month

January is National School Board Recognition Month - a great time to recognize our locally elected community members who selflessly volunteer their time, talents and energy in support of high-quality public education here in Derry Township. The time spent in bi-weekly board meetings represents just a small fraction of the hours DTSD school board members dedicate to their posts. Board members contribute hundreds of hours each year crafting policies, building fiscally responsible budgets, carefully listening to constituent input, along with serving on committees & as delegates to community organizations.
