6th/7th/8th Grade General Music Information
An experience of a lifetime
I want to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to music class here at Hershey Middle School. Music, an experience of a lifetime is the theme.
Have you heard any music today? Rarely does a day go by without music touching our lives in some way. Some of us are creators of music, some are performers and all of us are consumers of music. Music touches each of us in some way.
Your child is in this class because music is such a basic part of our lives and because its study is vital to a well-rounded education. Recent studies have shown that children who study music also perform better in other academic disciplines. Music, indeed, is an experience of a lifetime.
Therefore, we will study music by experiencing music. We will listen, play instruments, compose, and sing. We will look at what is happening in music today and how the music of yesterday made music what it is today.
You can be an important part of your childs musical education. Encourage them to listen to quality music. Discuss what you are hearing. Attend concerts together. Encourage your child to develop their own lifelong connection with music.
I will do my best to make your childs musical experience here at Hershey Middle School one that will help them acquire an appreciation for the art of music for their lifetime. I ask your help and support to that end.
