2016-17 Orchestra Festival Audition Requirements
All students must obtain a copy of the solo/etude book for their instrument. Photocopies may not be used for auditions except in special cases approved by school orchestra directors. Appropriate uses of photocopies would be enlarged copies in the case of students who are vision impaired or copies of a specific page to facilitate a challenging page turn. If a school orchestra director approves the use of a photocopy, students should ALSO have the appropriate solo book with them at auditions.
High school directors should share selection details with students in grades 10-12. Email Dalinda Bohr (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have questions regarding the selection of high school students.
We are on Year 2 of our revised rotation of audition solos. Solo books may be obtained from most local music stores as well as many on-line sources. Students purchasing books for the junior high solos should ensure they are purchasing the correct volume.
Elementary Solo (grades 4 through 6)
All solos for elementary are in Solos & Etudes, book 2, by Robert Frost, Published by Neil A. Kjos Publishing.
Junior High (grades 7 through 9)
Please see the book title (in boldfaced type) for each instrument. Students must audition on the arrangement in the specified solo book. Other arrangements of these solos will not be acceptable for audition purposes.
High School (grades 10-12)
Student participants are nominated by their school orchestra directors. Each director may have different means of selecting participating students. Students will audition for seating placement at the first rehearsal.
