My name is Mrs. Amy Kensinger and I will be your second grade teacher this year! I am very excited to be teaching at Derry Township and working with such wonderful students and families!
Here are some interesting facts to help you get to know me:
Background with Children:
With my undergraduate psychology degree, I was an intern school counselor at Elkton Elementary in VA. In that position I counseled children, ran play therapy groups, and taught Character Counts to grades K-4. After graduation, I worked as a Child Care Counselor at Kids Peace Psychiatric Hospital. In California with my masters, I worked as a Educational Consultant at OASES and realized I wanted to be in the classroom and not the boardroom.
With my Masters in Early Childhood Education, I taught 3rd/4th grade Learning Support at a neighboring district. In 2010, I worked at the Vista School's summer STAP camp here in Hershey. I really enjoyed meeting new students and I learned a lot myself!
This will be my seventh year in 2nd grade at Hershey Elementary! My first year at Hershey I taught 3rd grade.
During the summer I am fortunate to be home with both of my sons and our yellow Labrador Retriever, Morrison.
I grew up in Lopatcong, New Jersey and have been a resident of PA for a little over 10 years. My hobbies include listening to music, watching movies, swimming, and enjoying the great outdoors. I am an avid reader. My favorite book series in 2nd grade was The Berstein Bears and my favorite children's author is Roald Dahl. I love to dance; I was a dancer for 15 years. I also love to travel and try to do so as much as possible. I lived in Florence, Italy and visited 14 foreign countries. I have driven cross country twice, and have visited 43 of the 50 states. My goal is to reach all 50!
I am looking forward to learning from your children this year and getting to know each one of them on an individual basis! Please feel free to contact me at any time.
