Summer School Enrichment Program
The Derry Township School District Summer School Program is returning for 2018! This program is for students who will be starting Kindergarten this fall up to those who will be in 6th grade when school starts. There are great courses that have been offered previously and some new courses this year too! Certified teaching professionals will teach all courses.
As usual, Derry Township Parks and Recreation’s Summer Day Camp will be taking place in the Hershey Middle School. Any students attending Summer Day Camp can also attend enrichment courses. Just notify the Summer Day Camp office to let them know that your child has been signed up for classes.
The schedule of classes will look a little different this year. This year, summer school will run one week, from June 18th - June 21st. There will be four sessions offered each day. Sessions will run as follows:
June 18th - 21st (Monday-Thursday)
- Session 1: 9:00 -10:25
- Session 2: 10:30-11:55
Staff Lunch Break (All students must be picked up between classes so that staff can take a lunch break!)
- Session 3: 12:30 - 1:55
- Session 4: 2:00 - 3:25
Please choose one class per time slot. Each class is four days long. The cost for class is $50.00. Class sizes will be limited. There will be no refunds given for summer school. If your child chooses a class that is full, you will be able to choose another class that is not full. You will NOT be given a refund. If your child chooses a class that requires an additional fee for supplies that money should be paid directly to the teacher and NOT be included with your class payment.
Class sizes will be limited. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be given priority for pottery classes this year, as long as they are registered by April 30th. If there are more third, fourth, and fifth graders registered than class spots available, students will be chosen on a first come first serve basis. Registration will be collected from the offices daily. After that date, students from other grades that are interested in pottery classes will be added by random selection if there is enough room. When filling out your registration form, if your child is not in third, fourth or fifth grade, please do not choose pottery as one of your four choices. Please check the box if your child would like to participate in pottery and we will add it on their class schedule if available. This means if a spot is available, your child will be added in and will lose the class that they originally signed up for at that time. In other words, only check the pottery box if your child would like pottery over the other classes that they have signed up for. We will not call to ask permission to add your child to a pottery class if you checked the box, as that would be incredibly time consuming.
A confirmation letter will be sent home with your child during the last week of school. If you did not get into a class that you picked, you will be notified prior to that week to choose an alternate class. If your child got in to a pottery class, it will be reflected on your confirmation letter. You will NOT get a call prior regarding pottery classes.
All summer school information and forms are listed on the Derry Township School District website www.hershey.k12.pa.us and extra print-outs are available in each office. All course sign-ups are on a first-come/first-serve basis. Click on the links below to find a course list with course descriptions, instructors, and a registration form. Health forms are only required for NEW students of the district. Registration for all courses will begin on April 1st. You do not need to register in person. You can drop your registration off in the school office or send it to school with your child. In order to be registered you must return the registration form and payment together. Please pay by check. Checks should be made out to DERRY TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT.
We will be holding summer school classes in the Hershey Elementary School 2-5 building this year. Students should be dropped off and picked up in the front of the elementary building.
