The Intermediate Elementary School serves children in fourth and fifth grades.  The school building was originally constructed in 1954 and renovated in 1991. Today the facility offers more than 154,000 square feet dedicated to meeting the needs of young learners.

Young children learn by doing. Learning is sequential and children must demonstrate readiness for new understandings based on their maturation and past experiences. Children acquire information and knowledge through interaction with people and objects. They are motivated to learn through their own need to make sense of the world around them.

The building has a card access system and offers telephone, television and intranet access in each classroom.  Other amenities include a multi-purpose room, two cafeterias/multi-purpose room, and a gymnasium with auxiliary gym space.

Taxes to Remain Frozen for 2016-17 Budget

The Derry Township School District Board of School Directors has adopted a 2016-17 school year budget that freezes taxes. The $59.8 million budget also avoids significant program or staffing cuts. The district’s millage rate will remain at 18.109 mills, one of the lowest in Dauphin County. A Derry Township property with an assessed value of $150,000 (the township average) will be taxed at $2,806. Assessed value is the taxable worth of a home, and is usually much lower than the market value, which is the projected re-sale price of a property.
