Mission
Trojan Foundation
The mission of the Trojan Foundation is to enhance and enrich the programs and services offered by the Derry Township School District by providing benefits to its students, staff, and community through support of creative and innovative academic, cultural, extra-curricular, and co-curricular activities and programs.

The Trojan Foundation seeks alternate sources of revenue for the district to perpetuate new and innovative programs inspiring students to become active, life-long learners. This will be accomplished primarily through the creation of an endowment to sustain the objectives of the Foundation.

Why a Foundation
As part of its strategic plan, the district has set a goal of being recognized as one of the top 5% of public school districts in the nation. To assist the district in this regard, the Foundation’s vision is to form a partnership on behalf of the students and community.
T
he Trojan Foundation formed with the sole intent of raising supplemental revenue for the Derry Township School District in support of its innovative programs and services.

In the face of shrinking state and federal subsidies, it has become  increasingly difficult for the District to offer the very best education to our children. Local taxpayers in Derry Township assume almost the entire financial burden of the school district. Typically the District receives less than 15% of its revenues from federal and state sources. (Districts in the Commonwealth usually receive between 45-50% in state and federal funds.) The Derry Township School District began exploring the viability of an educational foundation in 2003 as a means of generating additional revenue. After a two-year maturation process, the board of directors incorporated the Trojan Foundation in 2005 as a private 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
