The focus of the AP German class is to refine the student's knowledge of every aspect of the German language including the grammatical and stylistic structure, as well as vocabulary usage and word selection.  The class is conducted entirely in the target language in order to foster an authentically German environment.  The students will be expected to respond orally and in written fashion in German at all times.

The students will be using the Komm Mit III textbook and the accompanying workbook, Grammatikheft.  In addition, the students will receive various handouts of practice AP German exams, special sections of the exam such as story-telling and pictorial situations.  These materials are pre-approved for the AP German program and will promote the critical thinking skills and fluent conversation skills necessary to be successful with the AP German exam given in May.  It is imperative at this time that the student possess a German/English dictionary.  The students will also be expected to maintain an organized three-ring binder.

Hershey High School rules and regulations (found in the student agenda book) are to be followed at all time along with the following rules expressly for German students:

    a.  All homework is to be completed by the student on his/her own.  This is a practice exercise designed to reinforce the day's lesson.  All homework will be graded on COMPLETION.

    b.  Quizzes will be given periodically to assess the student's understanding of a particular concept.  Quizzes may be announced or unannounced.  Tests will be given at the end of each chapter, section, or topic.  Tests will always be announced.

    c.  All work missed as a result of an absence must be made up by the student in a timely fashion.  The student has a week after the absence to make up all homework assignments, tests, quizzes, or other assessments missed.  Failure to complete all work will result in a zero percentage grade for those missed assessments.
