The Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment department is responsible for developing and updating the curriculum, providing instructional support to teachers, and administering assessments.

They ensure that the curriculum is aligned with educational standards, offer professional development opportunities for teachers, and design assessments to measure student progress. By focusing on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and assessment practices, the department plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of education and promoting student achievement within the school district.

In addition, the Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment department collaborates with other departments within the school district to ensure coherence and consistency across schools. They work closely with special education services, English language learner programs, and other student support services to provide an inclusive and equitable educational environment.

Dr. Aaron Shuman, Assistant to the Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment

Dr. Aaron Shuman transitioned from assistant principal at Hershey Middle School to the Assistant to the Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment position at the August 23, 2021 Board of Directors Meeting. 

Dr. Shuman began his teaching career in 1998 at Hatboro-Horsham High School in Suburban Philadelphia. During his time at Hatboro-Horsham he taught computer science, coached swimming, and sponsored a robotics club. In 2005 he moved to DTSD as a middle school assistant principal. Dr. Shuman holds Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from Shippensburg University and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Temple University. He completed his Doctoral program at Temple University in 2010. Dr. Shuman is married with two children.
