The Derry Township School District believes in a philosophy of transparent operations. Ensuring open and honest government is a bedrock principle of democracy. In keeping with this philosophy, the district recognizes the importance of access to public records. The public has the right to inspect and to procure copies of such records (with certain, legally defined exceptions) subject to Pennsylvania's Right to Know Law, a series of laws designed to guarantee that the public has access to public records of governmental bodies.
A revised Right to Know or Open Records Law (Act 3 of 2008) took effect on January 1, 2009. This law presumes that all documents of all governmental bodies will be presumed to be open to the public unless the agency holding them can prove otherwise.
Derry Township School District is posting the following information as a service to its constituents and in compliance with Section 504 of the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law.
The Board of School Directors has established Policy 801, which outlines and defines the processes to be followed pertaining to inquiries in conjunctions with Pennsylvania's Right to Know legislation.
