Ms. Kat McBride
Hello!
My name is Kat McBride, and I will be your child's case manager and teacher for 3rd and 4th Grade Learning Support. This is my second year at Derry Township. It’s going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures, and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us!
A little about me:
I received my Bachelor's degree in 2017 from Millersville University where I majored in psychology and minored in art. In between my undergraduate graduation and starting my master's program, I began working in an evening treatment center (the PULSE Program) for young children and teens, teaching nine different therapeutic (social emotional learning) and educational classes. During this time, I was also a TSS (Therapeutic Support Staff) and worked with many young children in several districts with a variety of needs. While working in both these positions for four years, I have found a love for teaching and helping children achieve their educational and social-emotional goals. I completed my Post-Baccalaureate Certifications in Early Childhood Education (K-4) and Special Education (K-8) in December 2020. I have experience teaching 1st grade, 5th-8th grade Autistic Support, and 1st grade learning support!
I am a BIG Harry Potter and Marvel movie fan and coffee fuels my everyday life. My hobbies include traveling, painting, reading, hiking, and taking our dog (Lily) for long walks. I also volunteer at art shows in downtown Lancaster. Maybe you have seen me working the raffle tent at the Long’s Park Art Festival that is held every September!
I am so excited for this next year and cannot wait to start teaching your kiddos! My mission is to create an environment in which children are motivated, excited about learning, and will obtain the skills to be lifelong learners. I want the classroom to be a space where the students are constantly engaged in their learning and are an essential member of the classroom. I look forward to getting to know all of you!
