Right to Know / Open Records
The Derry Township School District believes in a philosophy of transparent operations. Ensuring open and honest government is a bedrock principle of democracy. In keeping with this philosophy, the district recognizes the importance of access to public records. The public has the right to inspect and to procure copies of such records (with certain, legally defined exceptions) subject to Pennsylvania's Right to Know Law, a series of laws designed to guarantee that the public has access to public records of governmental bodies.
A revised Right to Know or Open Records Law (Act 3 of 2008) took effect on January 1, 2009. This law presumes that all documents of all governmental bodies will be presumed to be open to the public unless the agency holding them can prove otherwise.
