SNAP Support
Derry Township School District wants to inform our families about recent developments impacting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in Pennsylvania, and some resources that you may wish to share with the learners and communities you serve. Earlier this month, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) notified Pennsylvania that it will be unable to fund November SNAP benefits due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, and there is not yet clarity on when benefits will be issued in response to the federal lawsuits.
Nearly two million Pennsylvanians rely on SNAP benefits, including more than 713,000 children. Resources to be aware of include:
- PA Navigate: Help finding food and other resources
- www.pa211.org: Local assistance
- www.feedingpa.org: To find local food banks and other food assistance programs.
- Many electric and gas companies also offer utility assistance programs for qualifying customers. Pennsylvanians can contact their utility companies or visit the PA PUC’s utility assistance website for more information.
