Wellness Policy
In the fall of 2006, the Derry Township School District formed a wellness policy subcommittee representative of all stakeholders in the district to study matters related to school wellness. The committee’s creation was the byproduct of the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, which states that no later than the first day of the school year beginning after June 30, 2006, each local educational agency shall establish a local school wellness policy.

The subcommittee's charge was to complete a thorough and objective analysis of the various components of school wellness including curriculum, physical education, school activities and functions, and food services. Upon completion of the review, the subcommittee provided the district with a written report of its findings that included options for wellness initiatives based on its research. The report helped the district with developing a district-wide wellness policy.

At the June 26, 2006 regular meeting of the Derry Township School District Board of School Directors, board policy 246 - Student Wellness was adopted. To view the district's wellness policy, click on the link below.
